What We Collect
Canary collects as little as possible:
- Room photos — sent once to our AI analysis service to identify household items, then discarded. Photos are never stored on our servers.
- Scan results — room scores and detected items are saved locally on your device only. We do not have access to this data.
- Purchase status — if you purchase Pro access, we store your email solely to verify and restore your purchase. We do not use it for marketing.
- Basic usage analytics — anonymous events (e.g., "room scanned", "recommendation saved") to understand how the app is used. No personal identifiers are attached.
What We Do Not Collect
- We do not require an account or sign-up
- We do not sell your data to third parties
- We do not store your photos on any server
- We do not track your location
- We do not run advertising networks
AI Analysis
Room photos are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for item detection and scoring. Anthropic processes images transiently and does not train models on your data. For details, see Anthropic's Privacy Policy.
Local Storage
Scan history and saved recommendations are stored in your browser's local storage. This data never leaves your device unless you explicitly share it (e.g., the share card feature). You can clear this data at any time from Settings → Clear scan history.
Affiliate Links
Some product recommendations include Amazon affiliate links (tag: canaryapp-20). If you purchase through these links, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend products relevant to reducing household exposure risks.
Children's Privacy
Canary is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be noted on this page with a revised date.
